Wolf Cooktops & Rangetops at Plesser's Appliances
Wolf cooktops and rangetops, available at Plesser's Appliances, put professional-grade surface cooking into a countertop installation, freeing the oven to be placed at a working height elsewhere in the kitchen. Built by Sub-Zero Group in Wisconsin, the lineup spans gas, induction, and electric cooktops plus gas rangetops, in a range of widths and burner configurations.
Cooktop vs. Rangetop: The Key Distinction
A cooktop drops into a countertop cutout with cabinetry or drawers below, while a rangetop is a deeper, taller unit with the professional look and control depth of a range top surface, typically installed with a cabinet run beneath. Rangetops generally offer higher output and more configuration options; cooktops offer more flexibility in cabinetry below. Getting this decision right early determines the cabinetry design, so settle it before millwork.
Dual-Stacked Sealed Burners on Gas Models
Wolf's dual-stacked burner design uses two tiers of ports so the same burner can deliver high output for searing and a low, stable simmer without cycling. Single-tier burners compromise at one end or the other. Sealed burner construction also means spills stay on the surface rather than dropping into the burner box.
Induction Options and Bridge Elements
Wolf induction cooktops deliver fast, responsive heat with a flat surface that wipes clean, and bridge elements allow two zones to combine for a griddle or long pan. Induction requires magnetic cookware and substantial electrical service — often a dedicated high-amperage circuit. Confirm the electrical requirement early, because it frequently drives a panel upgrade in older Long Island homes.
Configurable Surfaces on Rangetops
Gas rangetops can be specified with an infrared charbroiler, an infrared griddle, or a French top in combination with burners, with available layouts varying by width. Because the configuration is fixed at the factory, this is an order-time decision rather than something changed later. Confirm which combinations exist in your chosen width.
Installation, Clearance, and Ventilation
Cutout dimensions, countertop overhang, clearance to combustibles, and required ventilation all vary between cooktops and rangetops and between widths. Ventilation should be sized to the surface output, not chosen afterward. Talk to the team at Plesser's Appliances about cutout and clearance specs, gas or electrical requirements, and hood sizing before the countertop is templated.
