Maytag Over the Range Microwaves at Plesser's Appliances

Maytag over-the-range microwaves, available at Plesser's Appliances, combine microwave cooking with cooktop ventilation in a single unit mounted above the range. Built to the brand's durability standard in fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, they are the practical answer where wall space above the cooking surface has to do two jobs.

Two Functions, One Footprint
An over-the-range unit puts the microwave and the ventilation in the same space, which is the workable answer in a kitchen with no base cabinet to spare for a drawer microwave and no wall space for a separate hood. In a smaller kitchen, that consolidation is the whole point.

Understand the Ventilation Trade-Off
A combination unit is a compromise at ventilation compared with a dedicated hood: less capture area, lower capacity, and a filter closer to the cooking surface. If you are pairing it with a high-output gas range, a dedicated hood performs meaningfully better and the microwave belongs elsewhere in the room. Worth deciding deliberately rather than by default.

Ducted or Recirculating
Over-the-range units can typically be configured to duct externally through the wall or roof, or to recirculate through a charcoal filter where ducting is not possible — useful in a condo or on an interior wall, though ducted always performs better. Confirm which configurations your model supports and what the recirculating kit requires.

Sensor Cooking and Controls
Sensor cooking adjusts time and power based on humidity released during heating rather than running a fixed timer. Multiple fan speeds and cooktop lighting are integrated into the same control panel. Confirm the mode set and fan capacity on the current spec sheet.

Mounting, Clearance, and Installation Planning
Installation requires adequate mounting structure in the wall, correct clearance above the cooking surface, a dedicated circuit, and either a duct path or a recirculating kit. Clearance requirements are not negotiable and vary with the cooking surface below. Talk to the team at Plesser's Appliances about mounting height, clearance, duct routing, and electrical before installation.
