True Residential Outdoor Icemakers at Plesser's Appliances

True Residential outdoor icemakers, available at Plesser's Appliances, produce and store ice at the point of use in an outdoor kitchen or bar. Hand-built in St. Louis, Missouri, these units combine commercial ice production with outdoor-rated construction, eliminating trips back to the house with a bucket during an afternoon of entertaining.

Ice Production Where You Entertain
A dedicated outdoor icemaker produces significantly more ice per day than a refrigerator ice compartment, and puts it at the bar rather than inside the house. Daily production and bin capacity vary by model and drop meaningfully in high ambient temperatures, so confirm both the rated output and the ambient derating on the spec sheet before sizing for your entertaining volume.

Built and Rated for Outdoor Conditions
Outdoor-rated construction addresses moisture, heat, and UV exposure through sealed electrical components, corrosion-resistant materials, and weather-rated seals. Confirm the outdoor rating and whether the unit requires installation under cover — most outdoor refrigeration is not rated for full exposure to rain and direct sun.

Corrosion-Resistant Stainless Construction
Marine-grade stainless steel resists corrosion from humidity, chlorine, and salt air, which matters for a poolside or coastal installation. Ice production adds internal moisture on top of external exposure, so material specification is more consequential here than on a refrigerated unit. Confirm the stainless grade if the installation is near the water.

Plumbing, Drainage, and Freeze Protection
Outdoor icemakers need a water supply line, a dedicated GFCI circuit, and depending on the model a drain or condensate pump. In this climate, the water line and drain also need a winterization plan — a supply line in an unheated outdoor island will freeze. Settle drain requirements before masonry and hardscape are finished; retrofitting a drain into a finished island is not practical.

Installation and Specification Planning
Front-grille venting allows a flush installation within an outdoor cabinetry or masonry run, but clearance is not optional — ice production generates more heat than refrigeration alone. Talk to the team at Plesser's Appliances about width, water and drain rough-in, ambient ratings, cover requirements, and seasonal shutdown so the unit is specified and sited correctly the first time.
