I like the ice maker. I like the convenience of a water dispenser. It keeps things appropriately cold. It has been reliable in the basics.
Space is cramped. This is barely adequate for a middle-aged couple with no minor children in the home. If guests are anticipated or if there is a holiday meal planned, storage is very difficult.
It will not work without a filter installed. The filter does little. East Orange City, NJ, water is nasty. Filtered by the OEM filter for this model it is still nasty. We keep a Zero brand filter inside that does a far better. The OEM GE-branded filters are expensive, so to be forced to install one in order to get ice is akin to robbery. At least now (10 years in) there are aftermarket filters that fit and are priced at a 83% discount on Amazon.
When we were in the market for a new refrigerator, I did my research, and urged my Bride to get the up-and-down model. The design allows for more useful space. She wanted the french doors. Although there were models of the up-and-down refrigerator with French doors on the refrigerator section, she chose this one. To her credit she did admit to the error of buying this model.
Overall the plastics are durable. I have had to replace relatively inexpensive parts in the icemaker drawer. As I type I am trying to resolve a leak that I discovered when troubleshooting for the water dispenser. Obviously, the two issues are linked. After 10 years, these are the kind of issues I would expect. The compressor is still quiet and effective, maintaining the temperature in both sections at the set temperatures. The finish is still good. A quick wipe and it is like new. The plastic around the water and ice dispenser controls is also in good shape. The buttons behind the plastic cover do not protrude through.
This was a good buy. It is an adequate unit. Most will likely find the up-and-down option, with or without the french doors on top, to be more useful than this side-by-side model. I recommend this for singles or couples who almost never do any major cooking. Beyond this, this model is a huge (not physically huge, but...) disappointment.

The ice dispensing mechanism has been terrible since new. Had to replace the ice door closure mechanism multiple times due to corrosion. Condensate and rust takes it toll fast and does not allow the door to shut. Now the solenoid appears to not be working, that cross bar on the weight is gone. No wonder the ice door would not shut. Picture is after trying to clean the solenoid.
