We disposed of our old (but relatively new) washer that used water jets and had no agitator. It didn't wash but did destroy out cloths. We bought a new Maytag with agitator. It has a huge capacity, great features and works fantastically. We've had it for about 2 years without any problems. I expect it will go to 10 or more years of use easily.

Don't forego a white top burner. Easy to see the heating and super easy to clean. Just use a bit of Bar Cleaner.
