We have the same issue as bummed out in San Francisco. The exact same issue. Our repair guy has been out twice to do this. Otherwise, I chip away at the ice on the bottom and try to keep the thing working. Once the freezer builds up that much ice, the temp goes up in the freezer. This is unacceptable. The all refrigerator is also a disappointment. The condensation created in that unit is unbelievable. Everything in the fridge is wet. So frustrated with these units.

We've had this freezer and the matching fridge for almost 3 years now. It looks great but has a fatal design/mechanical flaw that cannot be fixed according to our latest repair person. The freezer creates a layer of ice about 1" thick at the bottom of the inside compartment. This freezes the lowest basket shelf to the bottom of the freezer. The water apparently accumulates because the freezer does sometimes have condensation on the inside which is supposed to drain out of the bottom of the unit. But the drain gets clogged very easily and it takes a repair person a couple of hours to dismantle and clean out the drain so the freezer will drain properly. Once the freezer floor has a layer of ice on it, any additional water leaks out of the door and onto our hardwood floor. I then have to manually chip away the ice from the bottom of the freezer to get it to stop leaking. A few weeks later the cycle repeats. Our repair man has said this is a known design flaw with this unit and he has run into it before. To ensure proper drainage we'd have to have the repair guy come out every couple of months, spending 2+ hours each time dismantling and cleaning the drain. I'm really amazed at how bad this is given how expensive this freezer is and the fact it's a monogram, which is supposed to be GE's best.
