Large open shelving. Easy to locate intems. Quiet.

We bought this freezer to replace a 10-year-old Frigidaire that no longer kept things frozen. With a failing freezer on my mind, the main feature I was looking for in a freezer was reliability and longevity. For this reason I wanted to avoid electronic controls as much as possible, seeing electronics as just another part to fail. There is no indication of electronics in this model; it has no digital display or buttons, just a simple old-fashioned dial. I guess it's possible that there are still electronics hidden inside.This freezer does have a fairly serious drawback. The cooling coils run through the wire shelving. This of course causes the shelves to be the coldest part of the interior. Therefore, the condensation/frost gathers on the shelves instead of the walls of the unit, and it seems to build up very quickly. (This is not an auto-defrosting model; that's another feature I wished to avoid due to its additional energy use. Consumer Reports gave this model a good energy rating.) So anytime you get food out, it will most likely be covered with a shower of crystals from brushing the shelf above.The door takes a strong tug to open; apparently the freezer seals itself by vacuum. I think it may be a bit noisier than some, but it sits in a corner of my home office and does not bother me at all.We've owned it for about a year now, and it has had no problems; I hope it'll go 20 more!

This product is designed for use in non-heated areas and meets these requirements. Use of this appliance is very straightforward and simple. Place the appliance in the area, plug the power cord in, and you are done. For uneven floors some additional leveling may be needed.
