I bought this ice maker to replace a a GE Monogram ice maker that I had bought when I built my house 13 years ago. This is almost the same exact ice maker. It is quieter and cheaper than the Monogram and works just as wel , if not better.

This unit replaces a Scotsman (made by Whirlpool) that had its thermostat fail after 22 years of operation. A whirlpool was a natural selection as a replacement for the unit. Having also looked at the Kitchen aid unit (also made by whirlpool) and had an 18 inch width but did not have as solid reviews as the 15 inch wide Whirlpool branded unit. This unit came with the drain pump installed but can be purchased without the drain pump installed. I would give it a 4.8 overall
Unit makes ice very well and it is recommended that the first 2 batches of ice be thrown away. It goes into fast ice mode for the first 24 hours after the unit is turned on. Not sure what this does, maybe the cycle times are modified? And it seems to take a day for the unit to cool down as this is a wet ice style icemaker. The oldest ice on the bottom melts away while the newest ice is on top. Only water freezes on the evaporator plate while the minerals do not and will get flushed out of the reservoir during each cycle making the ice clear and free from mineral taste. It does have the built in option for a filter but I have not needed to use the filter.
The stainless steel front does show finger prints but so does most stainless. It is noticeably narrower than the 18 inch unit and probably holds a little less ice in comparison but seems more than adequate for our needs, according to the specs 35 lb compared to 25 lb on this unit.
The door does swing to the side like a refrigerator door rather than down like a dishwasher and is reversible. Directions are fairly clear but do require finding where to start as the directions seem to be fairly sequential. I could see the 15 inch width being able to be installed in even small areas.

I just bought a new whirlpool under the counter ice maker. I love the design inside of the machine and the ice cubes that it makes. I do not like the finish of the stainless steel door. The door shows every print.
