A cooktop drops into a countertop cutout and sits shallow, preserving usable drawer or cabinet space below. A rangetop is a deeper, taller unit with professional control depth and typically higher output, installed above a cabinet run rather than into a counter. Settle this before millwork.

Integrated Downdraft
JennAir invented downdraft cooking, and select cooktops carry integrated downdraft ventilation that pulls smoke and steam down at the surface rather than requiring an overhead hood.
